UNIVERSITY INSTITUTE OF BREAST AND GYNECOLOGICAL ONCOLOGY

A major player in the management of women’s cancer in the PACA region, in 2017 Lacassagne opened the University Institute of Breast Cancer and Gynecological Oncology (IUSCG) to replace the Breast Clinic created in 2012. The IUSCG, whose objectives are to improve quality and coherence of care, brings together the essential specialisations needed to detect, manage and monitor women with breast and gynecological cancers.
Unique in the region, the IUSCG focuses on quality, individualized care and rapid intervention to maximize the chances of recovery.
In a welcoming space with modern cocooning architecture, it brings together:
– A platform of women’s radiology – mammography, ultrasound – providing screening, diagnostic radiology and interventional radiology;
– Medical consultations: anesthesia, surgery, medical oncology, radiotherapy;
– Consultations with coordinating nurses;
– A SENODAY welcome day;
– Colposcopy;
– Hysteroscopy diagnostic consultations

COMMITMENT TO SCREENING

With a state-of-the-art technical platform and all necessary expertise in the same unit, the Women’s Oncology Clinic carries out systematic screening for breast cancer. Similarly, the Center has set ambitious targets for screening for cervical cancer, offering a generalized smear every 3 years for 80% of women (instead of 60% today).
Lacassagne runs screening awareness campaigns throughout the year in partnership with local health bodies including the County Council and City Council … Every year, all the staff is mobilized for Pink October: organization of conferences, workshops for the general public and patients, participation in the Nice Cannes Marathon in teams with patients …

PERSONALIZED PREVENTION FOR PEOPLE AT RISK

Lacassagne is the only facility to offer genetic oncology consultation in the Alpes-Maritimes and Var.
Medical research has shown that 5% of cancers occur in people with inherited predisposition. These tumors often develop before the age of 50 and concern several members of the family. A genetic oncology consultation can diagnosis a genetic predisposition to certain cancers and the adapted follow-up for those carrying these predispositions.

NEW SENODAY COURSE: DIAGNOSIS OF BREAST CANCER IN ONE MORNING

A leader in its health territory in the management of breast and gynaecological cancers, the Antoine Lacassagne Center has set up – in accordance with certain guidelines set out in its 2020-2024 mission statement – an accelerated course dedicated to the rapid diagnosis and prompt management of breast cancer: the “Senoday”.

➥ Who is this new course for?
This course is intended for any patient wishing to see a doctor for the strong suspicion of breast cancer: a mass discovered on palpation, unilateral nipple discharge or axillary adenomegaly.
It is also intended for patients with a radiological abnormality diagnosed on a mammogram or by ultrasound (ACR4, ACR5), but who have not yet had a biopsy.

➥ How is the morning planned?
The day begins with a consultation with a breast surgeon who collects the clinical information.
The patient is then referred to the radiologist who performs a complete assessment (mammography, ultrasound, re-reading of external images) and a biopsy or cytology, if indicated. This sample is sent within the hour when possible to the anatomopathology laboratory for an initial analysis.
The patient sees the surgeon again at the end of the morning to receive the results and a first therapeutic approach. If a biopsy was not carried out, or if a rapid analysis was not possible, the patient is still seen again by the surgeon after the imaging consultation.

An appointment is scheduled within seven days after receiving the final results of the biopsy. The final treatment decision will then be defined with the proposals made by the Multidisciplinary Consultation Meeting.
